Occasionally a sensor needs a little extra help after replacing a battery.
First, make sure the batteries are new and non-rechargeable, and they are oriented correctly in the battery compartment. Notion recommends standard Alkaline AAA batteries for Gen 3 Notion Sensors, and Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAA batteries for Gen 2 Notion Sensors.
Make sure the sensor is awake
When you install new batteries, the sensor's LED should briefly flash. If you don't see the LED flash, then try cycling the batteries.
How to cycle the batteries in your Notion Sensor:
- Twist the sensor body counterclockwise and remove it from the gray baseplate
- Remove the batteries from the sensor and leave them out for 10 full seconds
- Reinstall the batteries in the sensor – the LED light should briefly flash red when the batteries are back in the sensor. Wait until you see the LED flash green, that indicates it has reconnected to your bridge.
- Twist the sensor body back on to the gray baseplate, all the way until you feel a click
Next let's make sure your sensor is connected
If your bridge is connected to your WiFi but your sensor does not flash green, you may need to temporarily move your bridge closer to the sensor until it reconnects. Once it flashes green, you can move your bridge back to its original location.
You can also check the Notion app to confirm that your sensor is back online.
- Tap on System
- Navigate to the Sensors tab
- Here you can view a list of your sensors and their connection status.
(Note: You may need to give the mobile app a minute to update after your sensor reconnects.)
Once your sensor is awake and connected to your bridge, let's make sure it's reporting events correctly
- Test an event to see if your sensor sends a notification. For example if your sensor is for a door, try opening the door. The app might take a moment before you get a notification.
- If you do not get a notification from the door task, check to see that your sensor is reporting the correct status for your door. If your sensor says that your door is open when the door is closed then use the Resync Door Task feature to recalibrate your sensor.
- If the Resync Door Task feature does not help - or resyncing is not available for the task that you are trying to test - you may need to recalibrate your sensor by deleting and re-adding the task.
